The Mariposa County Fairgrounds sits on 36 acres just outside the county seat and is the largest single assembly of production-usable space in the county.
Four enclosed halls are available: Sequoia Hall (Building A) at 5,000 sq ft with a stage, PA, bar and a commercial kitchen (two ovens, grill, burners, three-door refrigerator); Manzanita Hall (Building B) at 5,000 sq ft with a portable stage and PA and a smaller kitchen; the Redbud Room (Building C) at 1,152 sq ft with a commercial kitchen and walk-in refrigerator; and Building D at 1,152 sq ft with interior restrooms and storage, no kitchen.
Outdoors: the Gold Bowl Arena and grandstand seats over 3,000 and has hosted the county demolition derby and rodeo — a dirt arena with a full crowd in frame is a hard thing to stage and harder to find. The livestock area has working barns and show rings. There are picnic and barbecue areas, a wedding area and a midway.
For productions the fairgrounds is most valuable in two registers. As a location it reads as small-town American fair, rodeo, county show, livestock auction, or the kind of dirt-track spectacle that is expensive to build. As infrastructure it is flat, gated, serviced ground within minutes of the county seat, which makes it a credible base camp for a production shooting elsewhere in the county or staging toward Yosemite.
